Inner Life of Liberalism

A little while back, I ended my ReImagining Liberty podcast's run at 101 episodes to make way for something new. That something new is now live. It's a fresh show, called The Inner Life of Liberalism, that I'm co-hosting with political theorist Jason Canon.

The Inner Life of Liberalism is about how a better life and a freer world aren't separate projects but are instead built from the same practices. Jason and I explore the habits of attention, care, and openness that shape both who we are and the kind of society we create.

We just released the trailer, which gives a preview of what the show is about and what you can expect. The first full episode comes out in a matter of days, and will cover everything it's about in more detail. But you can also get a sense of the project by reading this short essay I wrote.

We're live in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and everywhere else you get your podcasts. (Well, except for YouTube, which I'm working on adding.) Here are the links so you can follow the show:

We're also launching our Patreon. Supporters get access to a special version of the podcast feed with two cool perks: extended episodes and bonus episodes.

For the former, for each episode with a guest (which will be most of them), Jason and I record for roughly an hour. We the edit it down to ~30 minutes for the free version—but supporters can listen to the whole thing. For bonus content, we're playing with options. But to start, we'll have episodes that are me and Jason talking about a text. The first will be one of Sophie de Grouchy's philosophical letters. The second will probably be a very short book from Byung-Chul Han.

If you want to support The Inner Life of Liberalism from its beginning, you can become a patron.

Coming up next: A long episode of Jason and me talking about liberal practice and what it means to explore the inner life of liberalism. And then a conversation with philosopher Christian Miller about the virtue and practice of honesty.

I hope you'll join us on this journey. I can't wait to share it with you.
