On the conservative desire to build philosophical systems out of mere distastes.
Trad conservatism: "It’s a whole philosophical superstructure built upon what amounts to, 'If only we returned to the Middle Ages, I could get a girlfriend.'” Truer words have not been spoken. LOL
Aaron, there are several solid nails here that you hit on the head. New music, new tastes, new sexual expressions are not just new and contemporary, they respresent, in the conservative mind, decline -- terrible, morally corrupt, foundations-of-civilization cracking decline. Kudos on simplifying the complicated debate. Of course, there is always a very basic emotional core to all of it. Fear. Fear of rapid change. Fear of the unknown. Fear of becoming irrelevant. best, Ken (fellow Substacker, albeit a new and so perhaps dangerous one)
